Dr. Ignacio Lugones is a board-certified pediatric and congenital cardiac surgeon. He was born in 1977 in Argentina. He completed his training in 2008 at the Buenos Aires Children's Hospital “Dr. Ricardo Gutiérrez” under the direction of Drs. Guillermo Kreutzer and Andrés Schlichter. After that, he moved to the Favaloro Foundation University Hospital, where we worked as a staff surgeon and then head of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Department. He obtained his PhD in 2017. Besides his private practice, he works in the public sector as a staff surgeon at the Buenos Aires Children´s Hospital "Dr. Pedro de Elizalde", Argentina. He is the author of many peer-reviewed papers published in the most important journals. Among other contributions, he has developed two new surgical techniques for scimitar syndrome repair. He has also described a new method for calculation of the optimal size of the transannular patch in tetralogy of Fallot, and developed a pulmonary valve made of autologous tissue for prevention and treatment of pulmonary regurgitation. He is currently directing three international research studies on these topics. In the field of Pediatric Cardiology, he has described a new set of echocardiographic indexes to assist surgical decision-making in unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect. He teaches Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Surgery in two Cardiology Fellowship Training Programs. He also serves as an editorial reviewer for the World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, the BMC Cardiovascular Disorders journal and the British Journal of Medicine and Medical Research, and as an editorial board member of the Annals of Case Reports in Cardiovascular Medicine. He is an active member of the World Society for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery (member of the Research Committee), the Argenitean Cardiology Society and the Cardiovascular Surgery Argentinean College. He also serves as an editorial reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals. He has received the AATS Graham Foundation “Every Heartbeat Matters” award for three consecutive years (2015, 2016 and 2017). He is the President of Cardiocongénitas Argentina, a non-profit organization dedicated to provide guidance, help and assistance to people suffering from congenital heart defects and their families. He speaks fluent Spanish, English, French, German and Portuguese.

Dr. María Fernanda Biancolini is a board-certified Pediatric Cardiologist, specialist in TTE, TEE and Fetal Echo. She completed her pediatric training at the Pediatric National Hospital “Dr. Juan Garrahan”. She fulfilled her cardiology training at the Buenos Aires Children´s Hospital “Dr. Pedro de Elizalde”. She was awarded with a 3 years’ research grant in myocardiopathies and ventricular function evaluation with strain techniques. Besides her private practice, she coordinates the cardiology department at Mitre-Trinidad Clinic and works in the public health environment at the Buenos Aires Children´s Hospital “Dr. Pedro de Elizalde”, Argentina. Among other contributions, she has developed a new echocardiographic index for surgical decision-making in unbalanced canal defects. She is currently co-directing several research projects in the field on congenital heart defects, such as pulmonary valve replacement in tetralogy of Fallot, unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect, percutaneous closure of persistent ductus arteriosus, long-term results of scimitar syndrome repair and percutaneous closure of ventricular septal defects. She has several publications in peer-reviewed local and international journals and has written two chapters in the book entitled “Congenital Heart Diseases: An Updated Approach to Some Important Issues”. She teaches Pediatric Cardiology at the Buenos Aires University Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Training Program. She is a full member at the Argentinean Cardiology Society. She speaks fluent Spanish and English.
